SW: The Phantom Menace |

A long time ago in a galaxy far far away there was a movie with so much hype, how could it possibly meet expectations? It didn't, but I won't bias my review on that fact. It was still quit a good movie. Episode 1 is the beginning of the saga, showing Obi Wan as a pupil, and the Jedi Qui Gon Jinn as his teacher. These and Darth Maul are the reasons for seeing this movie. Anakin was not a huge problem, but does Lloyd have to be so idiotically cheery? Yipeee! He's supposed to be solemn, like Vader. Lloyd stretches it a bit to much, like maybe when he was training someone slipped him some Ritalin. I don't know. Fight scenes? You bet and if you are a fighting fan see this movie. The lightsaber duel "2 on 1" is the fastest, most fearful battle yet. Vader vs. Skywalker pales in comparison. Darth Maul swings his double edged lightsaber, stabbing Qui Gon (you knew it would happen!) and finally getting slashed in half by Obi Wan himself. The plot is alright, but confusing at times. Some like it this way, I don't. I think a viewer should know what's going on, unless it's a horror movie. This is no horror movie, so it's plot should be clear. Queen Amidala? Wacked out, dresses are messed up and here's where the characters bug me. Listen to her lines, they lack feeling. Sounds like they hired a friggin' robot. How could Lucas miss this? Was he no as kicked in the face by it as was all viewers? Overall a good movie (KILL JAR JAR BINKS) but it needed some work. Worth the wait though. |
Concept drawing for Watto. We must destroy the one called Jar Jar |
Score: Plot: 7 Characters: 7 Immersion: 8 Storyline: 10 Other Stuff: 6 It's a good movie, but you know... Jar Jar... For other stuff they should just call it "Episode 1: Catalog Menace" I've never seen stupider promos, ads, and action figures. Jar Jar was created for the sole purpose of toys and little tikes. Overall: 8 |
